Green fingers start with Dantoy’s eco-friendly gardening kit

Leading sustainable toy brand Dantoy has designed a play set to inspire the next generation of horticulturists. Solid and durable, and designed to help develop fine motor skills, encourage creativity and imagination, the Dantoy BioPlastic Gardening Kit lets kids discover the world of gardening and will keep them entertained for hours.

The kit, suitable for ages 2-plus, contains 11 pieces – 1 watering can, 1 shovel, 1 rake, 2 gardening pots, 3 carrots, 2 signs, and 1 sheet of stickers – and is an eco-friendly choice for those who care about the environment. While traditional plastic is made from crude oil, Dantoy bioplastic is made from ethanol, a form of alcohol extracted from sugar cane.

Bioplastic made from sugar cane is a 100% sustainable and 100% recyclable raw material. The sugar cane used to make Dantoy bioplastic is grown in controlled, pesticide-free plantations in central and southern Brazil (more than 2,500 km from the Amazon region). The enlargement of areas for cultivating sugarcane is managed by “Sugarcane Agroecological Zoning”, formed by Brazil’s federal government. The harvested sugarcane is conveyed by train for further processing, which is more eco-friendly than being transported by lorries.

Sugar cane can be harvested several times a year, and new sugar cane plants are planted every five to seven years. The fields are harvested every six to 12 months, enabling them to be classified as sustainable raw material. Sugar cane absorbs carbon dioxide from the air, thereby minimising the greenhouse effect. For the manufacture of bioplastic, the carbon emissions accounts are positive from the budding of the plant until it is manufactured into bioplastic. For each kilo of manufactured bioplastic, 3.09 kg of carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere.

The Dantoy BioPlastic Gardening Kit costs £29 from Smallable
