Spielwarenmesse is showing its support of the sustainability movement sweeping the toy industry and beyond, having signed as a major sponsor of the second annual bio!Toy Conference taking place in Germany this September.
Held in Nuremberg, bio!Toy is a European event centered on the use of sustainable plastics within toy design and manufacture, aimed at bringing together leaders in the field of sustainable toy development through bio-based materials.
This year’s show will run from September 7th to 8th, hosted by Germany’s own Bio Plastics Magazine and follows the success of its inaugural bio!Toy conference in 2019. The event witnessed almost 100 participants, manufacturers of sustainable plastics and toys exchange news, experiences, and ideas on developing more sustainable materials for product manufacturing.
“We are pleased to be a sponsor of bio!Toy, the Sustainable Plastic Toys Event,” said Spielwarenmesse. “To combat climate change, toy makers and plastic raw material suppliers have started to develop and market products from circular and bio-based materials.”
Spielwarenmesse joins a line-up of event sponsors this year that includes DVSI and the Agency for Renewable Resources FNR.
“Plastic is by far the most commonly used material for toys. However, the widespread criticism of plastics has not left the industry unscathed,” said the bio!Toy team. “Manufacturers such as LEGO and Mattel have announced that in future they wil only use alternative materials that do not come from fossil raw material sources.
“Recyclability, the use of recycled or renewable raw materials, as well as significantly lower CO2 emissions are important new development goals.”
In accordance to the local Covid restriction rules, the second bio!Toy conference will be held as a hybrid event with both an in-person conference and digital experience. The event will take place on September 7th to 8th at the Arvena Park Hotel in Nuremberg, Germany.
