Stateside | US online retailer CAMP launches first e-commerce platform for children to shop

The US online retail, media, and family experience company, CAMP has launched the first e-commerce platform geared towards children, allowing kids to ‘shop safely online’ and spend cash given to them by their parents on presents to send to friends and family.
Called Present Shop, the platform allows kids aged three to 12 to choose, and send gifts directly to parents, teachers, or friends for occasions such as birthdays or simply just because. The concept also enables kids to shop for themselves, offering an interactive platform through which they can find the latest toys and games.
“Grown ups used to give kids a little ‘walking around’ money to treat themselves every now and then,” said Ben Kaufman, CEO of CAMP. “Today, kids can’t use cash online, and there are very few real world stores that curate a kid-safe assortment of toys, gifts and treats. CAMP’s Present Shop reignites the magic we all felt as kids walking through a mall with a $10 bill.”
To set tings up, parents can use a one-time use code for kids to have their own shopping experience. Present Shop is Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) compliant and sets out to ’empower kids to understand the value of their choices.’
A parent or guardian can visit camp.com/present to choose the event, budget, shipping and payment information. Kids are then given a unique one-time code to enter Present Shop and start their shopping. The parents’ budget is converted into ‘digital coins’ as children enter a game-like interface, allowing them to pick out presents until they are out of coins.
The kids are guided through the experience by CAMP’s own animated mascot, Scout, who gives them a series of visual and audio cues.
“Every week it seems like one of my kids needs to buy a gift for a classmate or relative. It’s much more fun for them to do it on their own and frankly for me, too,” continued Kaufman. “Present Shop shifts this responsibility from parents into a fun-filled adventure for kids.”
