The children’s audio platform, Yoto has launched a series of exclusive new music releases featuring hit children’s artists such as Jazzy Ash, Caspar Babypants, Elliott Park, Sonia De Los Santos, Secret Agent 23 Skidoo, and Lucy Kalantari.
The release of the child-friendly musical content follows research that has proved music to be a powerful developmental tool for children. The launch Yoto’s own recognition that music ‘is a formative driver throughout early years for teaching language, and as a vital way to create and nurture social bonds.’
“Yoto and the handpicked artists all share the belief that music has the power to spark insightful self-expression and joy within families,” said Dom Hodge, head of music at Yoto. “This is just the start of Yoto’s new music content journey. We are going to continue to offer music from a broad spectrum of diverse music creators that is beautifully made and thoughtfully put together.
“We’re excited to be bringing a new format to music that puts kids in control and combines the best of the digital and physical worlds.”
Yoto believes children ‘deserve music that ignites their limitless capabilities’ and by creating music in tandem with diverse and esteemed musicians, Yoto’s new music content ‘will empower children to embrace their artistic passions and qualities.’
This first original collection of music content has been billed as ‘just the beginning of Yoto’s music content expansion.’
One of the cards created exclusively for Yoto is ‘Songs From The Playground’ by the LA-based singer and educator Ashli St. Armant, who performs as Jazzy Ash.
“Songs From the Playground is a collection of tunes created by African-American girls on playgrounds during the 20th Century. Whether paired with a hand-clapping game or a jump rope, these songs all serve one purpose – to share some quality time with friends!,” said St. Armant.
“Working with Yoto on this project opened up a window to some of my most treasured memories of childhood. It was a pleasure to visit the playground again as I reimagined these songs for a modern audience. Yoto is doing wonderful and important work in bringing kids back to the simplicity of imagination.”
Three exclusive compilation cards have been put together by Caspar Babypants from his extensive back catalogue of children’s music. Caspar is also known as Chris Ballew, the singer of ’90s rock band The Presidents of the United States of America.
“Yoto is a very important option for kids that allows them to be in charge of their own music and player. That gift of ownership for kids is very exciting to me and a big reason why I am so thrilled to be involved with this wonderful project,” said Chris Ballew.
Yoto has recently bolstered its audio story library through partnerships with Disney, Pixar, and LEGO Duplo, and according to SimilarWeb data, was the third fastest-growing direct-to-consumer brand for Q1 2021.
The Yoto Player is controlled using physical cards that are inserted into the Player which plays audio content. Additionally, Yoto’s audio cards have the ability to play content through the app by simply tapping the card to the back of a compatible smartphone.
The free-to-download Yoto smartphone app also contains a selection of free content available to all, and allows families to play their library of audio through other Bluetooth speakers.
