Playmobil has hit 88mph and is taking fans and collectors on journey, Back to the Future, with the launch of two new exclusive sets based on the hit film franchise and master toy range the company launched to vast success back in 2020.
The firm has now pulled back the covers on its latest playsets: Marty’s Pick Up Truck and the iconic Hoverboard Chase Scene from the hit second in the trilogy, Back to the Future Part II. They arrive here, in 2021, following on from the successful premiere of the first Playmobil DeLorean Time Machine last year.
The Hoverboard Chase scene comes with its protagonists – including Marty McFly – in their futuristic outfits of 2015, as well as a Mr Fusion Reactor to expand the DeLorean Time Machine set. The play-set has been designed with the nostalgic adult fan in mind, with featured accessories such as the Jaws 19 film poster.
Collectors also get a postcard with a lenticular effect.
Meanwhile, Marty’s Pick Up Truck pays homage to the first movie in the trilogy’s ending sequence in which life for Marty McFly in 1985 couldn’t be better. Not only has Marty restored (or readjusted) the balance, but wakes up to his own Pick Up Truck, hand waxed by Biff Tannen himself.
The new sets are the latest in Playmobil’s ongoing strategy of tapping into the nostalgia-driven collector market. Earlier this year, Playmobil sat down with ToyNews to discuss the importance of the growing adult audience for toys in an exclusive feature piece. Read more on Playmobil’s plans for the market here.
