Funko Europe was named Licensee of the Year at the 2021 Licensing International France Awards last week, where the pop culture specialist brushed shoulders with some of the toy and entertainment space’s biggest names, including LEGO and Warner Bros. Consumer Products.
The annual event was held virtually as it brought together some 250 industry executives from France and around the world to celebrate some of the biggest licensing partnerships across Europe this past year.
Funko took home the Licensee of the Year award as Licensing International France celebrated the company’s portfolio of work across the region that currently spans over 1,000 licences. It follows a successful year for Funko across France, now the second biggest European market for the firm.
The purveyors of pop didn’t end the evening there, scooping a second awards when it was applauded for its collaboration with Warner Bros Consumer Products for its Prince de LU x DC Comics x Funko activation, winning the team the Best Promotion or Event award, too.
Andy Oddie, managing director of Funko (EMEA), said: “Thank you to the licensing industry in France for awarding Funko Europe this prestigious award. We really appreciate the accolade, and this reflects our large investment in the market.”
Other big names in the entertainment space to collect their awards on the evening included LEGO for its Nintendo Super Mario collaboration, and The Pokemon Company.
Hosted by Christophe Drevet from CDR Strategy and Licensing International France’s own Florence Ayem and Laurent Taieb, the event also named its first French Rising Star as WildBrain CPLG’s Jeanne Baledent.
Meanwhile, 12 Awards winners were named during the event, selected from among the 104 submissions received, an increase of 30 per cent on the number of nomiations last year.
