Toyish Labs ‘reimagines toy retail’ with Clixo store and workshop space to let kids ‘unleash their creativity’

The award winning toy studio, Toyish Labs, has opened its first retail and workshop space, making the firm – the team behind the origami-inspired Clixo toy range – a new hybrid of toy design entity and retail name, and setting the outfit off on its mission to ‘reimagine what a toy store can be during the times of Covid-19.’

Setting up shop in Brooklyn, the retail and workshop space aims to get kids building and using their imagination through open play with the firm’s flagship product, Clixo. The space will include a full magnetic wall for creations to hang, modular pedestals for individual playtime, and chandeliers made out of Clixo pieces.

The Covid-19 safe environment has been designed to allow kids to unlock their imaginations and exercise their creativity.

“We wanted to reimagine what a toy store can be during these stressful times,” Clixo creator and CEO of Toyish Labs, Assaf Eshet, told ToyNews.

“We’re so excited to have opened the doors to our toy store and play lab because fostering a constant dialogue with our community has been our number one priority. It’s a safe and creative play safe where kids can feel inspired by possibilities, where they can build and show off their creations, but where they can also give feedback and feel like they’re part of the process.”

Clixo recently joined the ranks of Toyish Lab’s other award-winning products to take free-form expression to the next level. The patented and proprietary design of colorful, twisting and interlocking shapes, comprised of reinforced paper and durable magnets, encourages improvisation and out of the box thinking. Clixo is lightweight, easy to stack and take anywhere, and doesn’t require a flat surface to build on. Its material design emphasizes Toyish’s philosophy: don’t tell children how or what to create, but give them a tool that empowers them to be as creative as possible.

In a recent interview with ToyNews, Eshet described the range as a means of encouraging open play among children, and allowing them to explore toys and arts and crafts outside of parameters set by the narrative element of many of today’s toys.

“With our new space, kids and adults alike can experience firsthand the freeing nature of Clixo and how it’s changing the way we play,” said Assaf Eshet, founder and CEO at Toyish Labs.

“For so long we’ve had this perfectionist mindset around life, but we are building the tools to help everyone get back to open-ended play and imaginative thinking. COVID-19 has kept us stuck inside for months, so we feel that now is the right time to share a safe space with the community where kids can express themselves creatively.”

Toyish Labs is continuing to monitor the COVID-19 situation and places the highest priority on the safety of its guests. Upon entry, all visitors will have their temperature checked and sign a contact tracing waiver. Masks are required and hand sanitizer will be provided as well as three separate sinks for hand washing. Toyish Labs has also installed an advanced air filtration system and social distancing is required in the space.

Clixo’s retail and workshop space is located at 109 Gates Ave, Brooklyn, NY. Walk-ins for individuals and small groups are allowed, but Toyish Labs highly encourages scheduling a visit in advance.
