Spielwarenmesse has confirmed the dates of its 2021 Summer Edition International Toy Fair as July 20th to the 24th, a forced change from its traditional slot in January/February each year owing to the ongoing restrictions surrounding the pandemic.
The move marks the first time that the Nuremberg toy fair will be held in the summer, taking up a slot that it is hoped will circumvent the current rising infection rates and restrictions on travel at the hands of Covid-19.
The five day event will run from the Tuesday, July 20th to Saturday, July 24th, another first for the show that next year will be giving the industry its Sunday rest.
It was only last month that Spielwarenmesse revealed its plans to move the show from its traditional first quarter slot to a summer date. At the time, CEO Ernst Kick said that it was a regretful decision, but one based on the guidelines of the Bavarian State Government that was well received by all participants.
“I’d like to thank everyone who joined us on this path, and I feel sure that the improvements we have made will benefit all future events and appearances,” said Kick at the time.

As the largest and most important event of the year, the toy fair in Nuremberg brings together all international decision-makers. Well-known brands, trendy start-ups, buyers for major chains, independent retailers and large numbers of media representatives combine to make the Spielwarenmesse a unique event for all players in the toys and games market.
The summer event promises to deliver around 2,843 exhibitors from 70 countries, including some 431 new exhibitors. The show expects to welcome around 62,000 visitors from 136 countries, one million products, and 120,000 new products.
Ernst Kick, CEO, said: “My team and I are delighted to be organising a live event again, something the market is clearly longing for. In light of the new dates, the concept will differ from the winter event and will be tailored to the needs of both exhibitors and visitors.
“Now running from Tuesday to Saturday, the new choice of days reflects the wish of many retailers and buyers to include an extra weekday. In terms of content, the industry is supporting the organiser’s plan to present a relevant offering of information and product innovations, where the Christmas season plays as much a role as the outlook for the year ahead.”
