Coiledspring Games’ Roger Martin has been appointed to the newly created role of Hobby & Independent Channel Director for Asmodee UK, a move that comes amid a strategy and structure shake-up at the board gaming giant as it prepares for a projected further growth in the market this year and beyond.
Asmodee has seen ‘remarkable growth’ in recent times, having doubled in size over the last five years and cementing its position as the number one games company in the UK. The company is now adopting a strategy of dividing its sales and marketing efforts into two channels: the hobby and independent trade channel, and the national retailers channel.
Martin steps into his new role with the firm as part of this strategy, bringing with him an unrivaled knowledge of the market, having founded Coiledspring in 2004 with just one game and one puzzle, and growing the business to become a major name in the UK games space.
In 2018, Coiledspring Games joined the Asmodee family, which provided a platform for continued growth for the business.
Amid the new structure, Martin’s appointment will allow Anil Boodhoo to focus on his updated role of National Channel Director.
“I was delighted to accept the opportunity to join the UK’s number one games company,” said Roger Martin, Hobby & Independent Channel Director for Asmodee UK. “Hobby and Independent retailers are the foundation of Asmodee’s business. This sector is facing an unprecedentedly challenging retail environment; these changes enable us to focus on helping them not just to survive but to thrive.”
“It’s great to welcome Roger to the Asmodee team,” added Boodhoo, “and I am looking forward to working closely alongside him at this exciting time for our business.”
Asmodee’s managing director, Alex Green, said: “I am delighted to welcome Roger to Asmodee UK in his new role, which will help us to deliver the service and growth that we know is possible. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to better balance our efforts between the independent and national markets, giving us the focus and expertise to continue our amazing progress of recent years.”
Martin’s new role at Asmodee of course leaves a vacancy at Coiledspring, into which Kerrie Corrigan will step, taking up the mantle of General Manager for the business. In her new role, Corrigan will work closely with Martin through Q4 during his transition between the two roles.
Martin is expected to be fully in situ by January 1st 2021.
Changes at Coiledspring
Coiledspring’s new General Manager, Corrigan has worked alongside Martin as sales manager since joining the company in 2015. In that time the team has doubled in size and the product range has expanded. Coiledspring Games achieved a 20 per cent year on year growth over the last three years.
“Having worked at Coiledspring Games for the past five years, I’ve got to know our suppliers and retailers very well,” said Corrigan. “I’m very passionate about our products and leading Coiledspring Games gives me the opportunity to build on the success that Roger and I have had over the past few years.”
Martin added: “When discussing who would be the right person to take over at Coiledspring Games, Kerrie was the obvious candidate. She has the knowledge of our products, the respect of our customers and the passion to take Coiledspring Games to the next level. The business is in very good hands.”
Founded in 2004, with just one game and one puzzle, Coiledspring Games has established itself as a UK distributor of some of the world’s biggest games, puzzles and jigsaws. Key partners include: Blue Orange, Gamewright, IELLO, Schmidt Spiele, MindWare and Wrebbit3D.
