Hasbro has turned to the hobby specialist, Renegade Game Studios to develop a line up of new strategy card and roleplaying games for its leading IP including Power Rangers, Transformers, My Little Pony, and GI Joe. News of the new partnership was first published in an exclusive piece with Forbes this morning.
“The partnership is an extension of one already in place that witnessed the development of the Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid tactical miniatures board game back in 2018. The project was first initiated by Saban – the owner of the Power Rangers IP at the time – but was taken over by Hasbro when the toymaker acquired the brand.
The development of the collaboration will now see Renegade Game Studios roll out two new styles of games for the suite of franchises, including a series of deckbuilding games, followed by the launch of a line of tabletop roleplaying games, spanning properties such as Transformers, My Little Pony, Power Rangers, and GI Joe. The move taps firmly into Hasbro’s own record of success with the Dungeons & Dragons franchise.
“Hasbro has brought so much joy to fans through these worlds filled with rich narratives and iconic characters. We are excited to expand our relationship with Hasbro to help bring these stories to hobby tabletops in a new way,” said Scott Gaeta, president and publisher at Renegade Game Studios.
Casey Collins, senior vice president and general manager, global consumer products at Hasbro, added: “We’re thrilled to expand our relationship with Renegade Game Studios to include more fan favorite brands from our portfolio.
“The tabletop and roleplaying games Renegade Game Studios innovated for the Power Rangers franchise have proved to authentically connect with both gamers and the Ranger Nation and we are confident that G.I. Joe, Transformers and My Little Pony fans will love the exciting games coming soon.”
The new titles are expected to be released in 2021.
In conversation with Forbes, Renegade Game Studio’s Gaeta concluded: “The partnership with Hasbro has really been great. We’re excited about these new brands that I’ve been chasing for over a decade. It’s really nice to be finally doing some fun stuff with them.”
