Thames and Kosmos takes Kennerspiel des Jahres Award win for The Crew – The Quest for Planet Nine

Thames and Kosmos’ popular science-fiction tabletop card game, The Crew – The Quest for Planet Nine has taken home the coveted Kennerspiel des Jahres Award 2020. Both The Crew and Kosmos’ My City were nominated for the award last month.

The Crew garnered rave reviews since its debut at Essen 2019. Initially a sleeper hit, word of the innovative co-operative trick taking game spread throughout the gaming world and led to Kosmos UK selling out of the English Language version within less than nine days of its arrival in February.

Since being reprinted and arriving back in the UK in mid-April it has sold over 8500 copies in the UK alone.

“The Crew has been a highly successful addition to Kosmos Games UK’s board game range, due to its innovative playing style and illustrations full of Sci-Fi in jokes,” sales director, Jo Drage told ToyNws. “It has outperformed our expectations and is still garnering rave reviews from both the UK and across the world.”

In order to meet demand and satisfy the gaming community, five free bonus missions – The Deimos Adventure, were devised and released on social media in a joint marketing campaign with Kosmos-Verlag and Thames & Kosmos US. The game is also under development as a digital entity and will be released in time for UK Games Expo in August.

The Crew is available to buy from all good local game shops or direct from the Thames and Kosmos website
