Koelnmesse’s popular baby and toddler trade fair, Kind + Jugend has cancelled its 2020 event amid the latest developments over the coronavirus pandemic and the world’s social distancing measures still being taken to combat the its spread.
The organisers made the decision to suspend the 2020 offering, but has promised to return for 2021 with ‘a new energy’ for the trade fair that draws in attendees in their thousands each year. Among the elements that played a part in the decision, Koelnmesse has cited ‘the latest news about new infections in Germany’, as well as the uncertainty that remains around travel.
“This is why a large majority of exhibitors and visitors have decided in recent weeks not to attend Kind + Jugend. Koelnmesse thus reassessed the overall situation and decided that it was best to respond to the cancellation and wishes of a large number of industry exhibitors and trade visitors,” it said in a statement.
The next edition, Kind + Jugend 2021 will be held Spetember 16 to 19 2021.
“As Kind + Jugend intends to remain the most important retail and innovation platform for the industry in future, it is working intensively on concepts and formats that will successfully bring exhibitors and visitors together again in Cologne,” said the organisers.
“For the international baby and children’s outfitting sector, the central business and networking platform of which is Kind + Jugend, suspension of the 2020 edition of this event will permit an important phase of redesign and realignment to bring fresh impetus to the market in autumn 2021, complete with new energy, new marketing strategies and new products.
“Kind + Jugend itself will actively facilitate this process while at the same time making intensive use the months leading up to the next trade fair to provide a tailor-made reflection of the needs of the sector in a trade fair and event format.”
