Hasbro is marking the 35th anniversary of one of the sci-fi movie genre’s best-loved films of the ’80s – Back to the Future – with the launch of a limited edition DeLoreon. This won’t be any ordinary kind of time-travelling DeLoreon, of course, because this launch also happens to be a Transformer.
The latest Autobot in disguise is named Gigawatt, in homage to the 1.21 Gigawatts integral to the film’s narrative, stands at 5.5 inches, and transforms from robot to car in 17 steps. It is also being produced in an extremely limited run of 1,985 – a number you may recognise as the release date of Back to the Future itself.
The Gigawatt toy will be available for pre-order on Walmart very soon. On October 1, 2020, a variant of the Transformer will be available through Hasbro Pulse.
In addition, it’s been reported that comic book publisher IDW is producing a four-part Transformers/Back to the Future series.
“Marty McFly has just returned to his home sweet home, Hill Valley 1985, and everything’s looking up… that is, until Marty and his friend Doc Brown’s time machine attracts the attention of the Decepticons,” states the official synopsis. “With one small mistake, Marty finds himself thrust into adventure to stop the Decepticon plot in the past, present, and future… all with the help of a new time machine: the Autobot, Gigawatt.”
