The UK’s largest pop culture event, MCM Comic Con London has cancelled its October event, a move made in response to the ongoing issues surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.
The London event, held twice a year, made the announcement via social media this week. In a statement, it said:
MCM London Comic Con is not just an event that happens twice a year, it is a community of loving, passionate and creative fans who inspire us every day. You make us laugh, you make us cry, and you make sure our eyes are opened to what’s important in the world. The MCM community, our community means everything to us, and because of that our main goal has always been to put on the best events we can for you as possible.
After many discussions we have made the incredibly tough decision to cancel MCM London October 2020. It has become clear that due to the restrictions and guidelines put in place due to COVID-19, we would not be able to deliver the high quality experience you expect and deserve.
After extensive discussions with local and national authorities, and after listening to our fans and exhibitors, we have taken the decision not to go ahead with this event.
We’d like to thank those who look forward to our events every year as a place of acceptance and safety, and those who have waited patiently during this challenging and unprecedented time whilst difficult decisions were being made. Although we can’t celebrate together physically, we aren’t going anywhere. We are still here online to bring you amazing experiences and all the pop culture content you love, and can’t wait to celebrate with you for a special online event in August.
