Ahead of Euro 2020 My Greatest Football Team Ever will teach kids to think like a football manager

The BBC’s chief sports writer, Tom Fordyce has penned a new children’s activity journal that aims to tap into the impending football fever as Euro 2020 gets underway this May.

Called My Greatest Football Team Ever, the new activity journal – published by Wren & Rock – will teach readers to think like a manager, compare the greatest players of all time, and curate their dream football team, along with a new kit, stadium, chant and more.

Laura Horsley, commissioning editor at Wren & Rook said: “Who hasn’t dreamt of building and managing their own football team – with the world’s best players at their fingertips? Well, we’re delighted to be publishing Tom Fordyce’s My Greatest Football Team Ever that enables readers to do just that. Clever, funny and completely original, I believe this book will become a must-have for football fans young and old.”

Fordyce is the BBC’s award-winning chief sports writer and has covered multiple Olympic Games, Premier League seasons, rugby World Cups, World Athletics Championships, Wimbledons, Tour de Frances, Ashes series, and Six Nations.

Fordyce said: “I fell in love with football as a lad partly because of my dad’s vivid descriptions of his favourite players from his era. Now I’m a father of two young football-mad boys I’ve been doing exactly the same for them – which has led to constant questions in response like, ‘Was Maradona better than Messi?’ and ‘If you had to choose between Bobby Charlton, Gazza and Andres Iniesta, who would you go for?’

“This book sprang from that happy source, and I can’t wait for other mums and dads and sons and daughters – and siblings, and best friends, and team-mates – to have the same brilliant conversations. And heated arguments.”

My Greatest Football Team Ever by Tom Fordyce will publish in paperback on 28th May 2020 (Wren & Rook, £7.99)
