Wow! Stuff celebrates Innovation category win at Licensing Awards 2019

Wow! Stuff is celebrating a big win at last night’s Licensing Awards 2019 with its tongue firmly in its cheek, after trumping competition in the Innovation category for its Harry Potter Invisibility Cloak.

Partnering with the team at Warner Bros, Wow! Stuff’s Harry Potter Invisibility Cloak uses AR and green screen technology to reproduce the magic of cinema and the film’s notorious cloak of invisibility when used with a smartphone or smart device.

Outside of the award win, Wow! Stuff certainly wanted to make the presence of its invisibility cloak known, even if it couldn’t always be seen, with an interactive demo zone, hooked up to a large screen, to allow attendees to don the cloak and disappear into the background.

This morning, Wow! Stuff CEO Richard North joked that “according to a source closely related to Wow! Stuff, certain guests enjoyed the Licensing Awards with mischievous shenanigans while veiled by the cloak.”

“Sure, we noticed a spike in sales of the Invisibility Cloaks the day before the awards,” he joked. “But I’ve always said to friends in the industry that they should not purchase cloaks to be used for shenanigans of any kind.”

Obliging the Wow! Stuff sense of humour, Ian Hyder, co-CEO of the Licensing Awards, commented: “We pride ourselves in ensuring the night is a huge success and everyone had a great time.

“However, we didn’t anticipate people would be using the cloaks to make mischief or to try their chances at getting more than one of the free sacks at the end of the night. We realised something was amiss around midnight as we saw two of the sacks floating towards the exit, but luckily we caught the mischievous guests in their tracks. Mischief managed.”
