Airfix celebrates 40 years of the Motörhead album Bomber with special Heinkel model

Hornby Hobbies’ popular Airfix brand is marking the 40th anniversary of the rock band Motörhead’s third studio album, Bomber, with a specially licensed version of its latest Heinkel 1:72 scale model.

Emblazoned with the ‘Bomber’ markings, the anniversary edition of the model will arrive with a specially created Anniversary box lid. The line has been developed in partnership with Motörhead’s licensing agent, Global Merchandising Services.

Motörhead, the iconic heavy-metal band’s striking album artwork for their 1979 ‘Bomber’ was carefully created by illustrator Adrian Chesterman and features the band members manning the cockpit of the craft.

The album was released on October 27, 1979, and reached number 12 in the UK charts. Over the course of four decades, and having seen the album sleeve make such an impression, the band insisted on a remarkable 40ft Heinkel replica to accompany them on stage for their now notorious ‘Bomber’ tour.

This stage piece continued to be used throughout the band’s career and was an iconic piece of set which fans would see during their live shows.

Included in the Airfix anniversary box are three original markings for the A07007, giving the customer various customisation options.

Next year will mark another enormous anniversary in the band’s history. Its fourth album, Ace of Spades which spawned the famous single of the same name will also be turning 40 years old. The Airfix partnership is one of a string of announcements set to be released as Global celebrate the iconic British bands forthcoming anniversaries.

Earlier this year, the bands record label, BMG detailed its plans to celebrate the anniversary of two iconic albums from the band in 2019, Bomber and Overkill. Creating a deluxe collector’s box-set entitled “1979”, along with 40th anniversary individual deluxe reissues of “Overkill” & “Bomber”.

Global will be exhibiting at the Brand Licensing Europe show and showcasing the special-edition plane, along with other exciting new product releases from their partners around the world.
