Clock counting down on plans to revive The Evil Dead 2 board game on Kickstarter

With just over one week remaining on Kickstarter and with over 50 per cent of its crowdfunding goal still to achieve, it’s going to be a photo finish for a campaign to revive a previously ill-fated Evil Dead 2 The Board Game.

As it heads into its final week on the Kickstarter platform, and still some £90,000 off its initial goal of £159,308, Jasco Games is looking for a final big push from pop cult fans and board gamers alike to see its Evil Dead 2 project through to completion.

In what the games publisher has called a ‘heart-throb campaign,’ Jasco Games has laid out its intentions to resurrect the Evil Dead 2 The Board Game name from the doomed pile and re-instil fan confidence in the license itself.

Jasco’s is a bold undertaking. A few years ago, a different games company launched and successfully achieved its crowdfunding goal on Kickstarter to develop a different Evil Dead 2 board game. However, through some less than scrupulous actions, the company never delivered the final product to its backers – leaving instead a rather foul taste in the mouth of an entire community.

This year, with its partners in Lynnvander Studios and The Evil Dead 2 licensing group, Jasco Games has launched the campaign to not only re-launch the cult film into the board gaming space, but send backers of the original, unfulfilled campaign a copy of its own game.

Last year, Thomas Gofton, CEO at Jasco Games spoke with ToyNews about the project, and called it a passion project to instil faith back in the Evil Dead 2 license and in the crowdfunding community.

Telling ToyNews of the disappointment and hurt he knew the scandal had brought to a community of fans, he wanted to be able to correct the mistakes made by another company and bring a community back together.

‘We cannot deliver exactly what previous backers pledged for, as that was not our project, however, we hope that will all love this game and appreciate what we are trying to do for our beloved gaming community,’ read a statement on the company’s Kickstarter project page.

‘Our Evil Dead 2 board game is an entirely new game designed by Lynnvander Studios and directed and tested heavily by Jasco Games and our play testers.’

While stats indicate that the majority of successful Kickstarter campaigns hit their target within the first week of the project, and with the clock fast running out on Jasco Games’ project with a substantial amount left to raise, hope remains for the completion of the Evil Dead 2 The Board Game.

Comments on the project have been in support of Jasco’s ambition to fulfil another company’s Kickstarter pledges, and include those who look to rally the board gaming community into action.

Backer Eric Fitch, said: “People need to get on board with this. I’m not an original pledge but after hearing the story of what happened, I pledged. I’ll be extremely disappointed if the gaming community doesn’t rally to make this happen.”
