The nation’s toy retailers speak as the Independent Toy Awards winners are revealed

Marvin’s Magic, Winning Moves, Tobar, and Golden Bear are just some of the names to have picked up Gold in this year’s Independent Toy Awards, featuring among an extensive list of gold, silver and bronze finalists in a competition celebrating the best of the industry.

Published by Toy Shop UK, the results go to showcase just what the nation’s independent toy retailers think could be topping children’s wish lists this Christmas.

Gold, silver and bronze medal logos have been awarded in each of the 30 categories, with a number of other suppliers receiving a “commendation” prize for products that narrowly missed out on a top three place. A full list of winning products can be seen here

Toy Shop UK’s impartiality has enabled it to create an awards process that is unique within the industry. By asking the over 900 independent retailers that list their businesses for free on the directory what they think are the best toys in each category, winners are “revealed” rather than “selected” as votes come in.

Toy Shop UK’s Michael Hawkins, said: “While Harry Potter remains one of the biggest toy franchises with no less than four gold medals this year, we’re delighted to see a diverse mix of winners which perfectly reflects the life and character of the independent toy retailers that bring so much to this industry.”

Among the winners was Accentuate Games who took home gold in the board game category for its latest release Rats to Riches, and Marvin’s Magic, who took a top spot in the Children’s Gifts category for its Box of 300 Tricks.

Of the win, Marvin Berglas, creator of Marvin’s Magic and vice-president of The Magic Circle, said: “We are delighted to have received the gold medal for our latest Magic Made Easy set that features innovative tricks plus the next level of interactivity with the superb Marvin’s Magic app.

“Magic is a such a wonderful and fun hobby whilst also encouraging many useful benefits such as hand eye coordination, social skills as well as confidence building. This set is the ideal starting point and covers all the different aspects for performing magic and Illusions. It’s the perfect children’s gift.”
