Sibling inventors, Graeme and Fiona Fraser-Bell, the duo behind the guess-the-accent game, Accentuate, have secured their first Gold medal at the Independent Toy Awards 2019.
The pair took the top spot in the Board Game category for their latest title Rats to Riches, the first creation from Singaporean student Eugene Lim that is a strategy game based on the financial ‘Rat Race’.
Rats to Riches casts every player as a filthy, scheming rat, racing to collect $100 Swindle and work their way to a better class of sewer, by investing in assets, hiring gangsters and – of course – stealing whatever they can.
Accentuate Games secured the world-wide rights for Rats to Riches in August 2018 and set about transforming the initial design and game-play into a truly innovative financially based strategy game.
Dr. Graeme Fraser-Bell, CEO of Accentuate Games Ltd, commented: “We are absolutely delighted to secure our first Gold Medal Award for Rats to Riches, it only took us five years and three games.
“By combining our intuition for game design and appeal with its ingenious game-play crafted by Eugene Lim we were confident Rats to Riches was set to achieve accolades and bridge the gap between mainstream and Hobby gamers.”
Fiona Bell, sales and marketing director of Accentuate Games, added: “From its first play-testing by the fabulously intuitive team at Playtime PR, we sensed there was something special about Rats to Riches which was borne out by its hugely successful launch at UKGE 2019.”
This deceptively sophisticated and multi-layered strategy game looks set to complement the already successful line-up of games offered by Accentuate Games with Accentuate, FReNeTiC and now Rats to Riches.
Peter Jones of Dragons’ Den fame, a corner stone investor in Accentuate Games Ltd, said: “Graeme and Fiona have secured a major success with Rats to Riches and I am delighted to be associated with such an ingenious and compelling, finance strategy game, it’s right up my street.”
Rats to Riches will debut exclusively at all John Lewis & Partners stores this September 2019, in addition to being available directly via the Accentuate Games Ltd website.
