Dunecraft recalls entire range of toy balls that expand in water over choking fears

A trio of expandable toy balls that can enlarge to up to 200 times their original size when placed in water, have been removed from Amazon over fears of choking came to light.

The US-based company Dunecraft is recalling all of its Spider Balls, Water Marbles, ad Glow in the Dark Spit Balls upon the discovery that they do not adhere to the strict health and safety standards and could lead to a child choking.

Customers with any of these products have been urged to stop their children from playing with them immediately and return them for a full refund.

They have been warned that should the balls be put into the mouth and swallowed, they can expand and cause a fatal occlusion of the respiratory track or intestinal blockage of small children.

The toys therefore do not comply with the requirements of the Toy Safety Directive and the relevant European standard EN 71-1.

All three of Dunecraft’s products increase in size when placed in water, with some of the balls in each product containing a multitude of smaller, break-out balls inside.

Trading Standards have urged consumers to cease playing with the toys immediately.
