Cyberpunk franchise returns to the tabletop with card game and board game in development

Crowds were wowed at this year’s E3 consumer show when Keanu Reeves took to the stage to announce the upcoming video game – and his own appearance within it – , Cyberpunk 2077.

Now, the title has gone and picked up fresh points with the gaming fanbase, with news that CMON is working with Cyberpunk 2077 to develop Cyberpunk 2077 – Afterlife: The Card Game; a deckbuilding spin-off card game set in the world of Night City.

Within the card game, players become Fixers who recruit cyberpunks, equip them, and then send them out on missions. Each successful mission builds up a player’s Street Cred, while the cyberpunks who survive their missions become Veterans.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently being developed by CD Projekt Red, the team behind The Witcher series of games. The new card game actually marks a return to the tabletop space for the franchise that started out life as a tabletop RPG in 1988.

A sequel game Cyberpunk 2020 was later launched, before spawning the hit Netrunner card game, developed by Magic: The Gathering creator Richard Garfield.

It has been confirmed by Mike Pondswith, the creator of the original Cyberpunk RPG that a new Cyberpunk tabletop RPG is also in development, with further details yet to be released.
