Magic Light Pictures has turned to the expertise of the UK’s toy and game design community for the development and launch of a new compendium of family and children’s games based on the now iconic Gruffalo IP.
Produced under license by Magic Light Pictures and put into production by Cartamundi, Games from the Deep, Dark Wood is a set of four games, each inspired by and featuring characters from the popular world of the Gruffalo, created by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.
The compendium is somewhat of a ground-breaking launch here in the UK, marking the first time that a box of four games in one box has been developed by three of the UK’s most prolific hobby designers. Titles included in the collection have been developed by the Spiel des Jahred-nominated Brett J. Gilbert, creator of the game Snowdonia, Tony Boydell, and Best Abstract Game award-winner, Andrew Harman.
The title – expected to land at retail this October – was a collaboration that came out of the first Mojo Nation Licensor pitching event almost two years ago.
“For me this has been a fantastic project to work on,” designer Harman, told Licensing.biz. “Magic Light has been incredibly supportive, Cartamundi is doing a fantastic job and of course the three of us developing such a great set of games with such a universally well-loved set of characters from The Gruffalo is such a privilege.
“We think something special has happened here and people are already telling us that we have raised the bar a bit for children and family friendly games.”
