Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy powers into toys with Xtreme Play

Dark Horse Comics’ Umbrella Academy has already caused a stir via its live-action adaptation for Netflix, and is about to tackle to the toy industry with a new collectable line.

In a deal brokered by Striker Entertainment with Universal Content Productions, Xtreme Play has detailed its plans to create a new collectable toy line based on the series as part of a multi-year licensing agreement. The company will bring the show to life with a range of stylised figures, plush, and cosplay.

The Umbrella Academy range is expected to arrive at retailers throughout the US and Canada in the first half of 2020.

“We are thrilled to partner with UCP to bring The Umbrella Academy to life and give fans new ways to collect and engage with this amazing brand,” said Stacy Showmaker, Xtreme Play’s brand manager for the line.

Based on the popular Eisner award-winning comics created and written by Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance and published by Dark Horse Comics, The Umbrella Academy follows a dysfunctional family of superheroes that come together to solve the mystery of the death of their father, the threat of the apocalypse and more.

A second season of the series is currently in production and expected to premiere on Netflix in 2020.
