Asmodee UK and Coiledspring Games celebrate big wins at UK Games Expo Awards

Both Asmodee UK and Coiledspring Games are celebrating a successful run at this year’s UK Games Expo that took place across the end of May, having secured major wins in the annual UK Games Expo Awards.
The UK gaming scene had much to celebrate as the powerhouse in tabletop gaming swept the board with big Award wins during what has been noted as an ‘incredibly successful year for the UK’s biggest gaming convention.’
UK Games Expo is the world’s third largest show of its kind, with a record breaking 25,704 unique visitors attending the Birmingham NEC event over the course of the weekend this year. The show’s annual awards ceremony is held in high consumer and industry esteem.
This year saw Asmodee UK nominated in almost every category among the 2019 awards, selected by a panel of judges, as well as being subjected to a public vote. Asmodee UK took home a staggering 24 out of 32 awards, with titles such as Who Did It? (Best Children’s Game), Ticket to Ride: New York (People’s Choice for Best Family Game), and Maki Stack (Best Party Game).
UK Games Expo’s 25,704 unique visitors in 2019 represent an approximate growth of 18. 5 per cent on attendance last year, along with a 15 per cent rise in repeat visitors to 45,097. Asmodee has been a major feature of the show throughout its continued growth, with a team of over 150 demonstrators on hand to show off its latest products.
“We are thrilled by the success of our products at the UKGE Awards,” said Ben Hogg, marketing
manager at Asmodee UK. “With recognition in almost every category, from children’s and family to
roleplaying and miniatures, it’s proof that there is something for everyone in the Asmodee catalogue.”
But it isn’t just Asmodee that is celebrating the win at this year’s show. The UK outfit – and Asmodee-owned asset – Coiledspring Games also secured some major awards, with a sweep of six awards from the 2019 event.
Five out of its six shortlisted games were voted best in their categories at this year’s UK Games Expo Awards at the NEC in Birmingham, which took place from May 31 to June 2 with the likes of Forbidden Sky (Judges Choice Best Nw Boardgame, American Style), Quacks of Quedlinburg (People’s Choice, Best New Boardgame, Euro Style), Zombie Kidz Evolution (People’s Choice, Best Children’s Game), Decrypto (People’s Choice, Best Party Game), and The Mind (Judges and People’s Choice, Best New Card Game, General).
“We have had a very successful three days at the Expo”, said Roger Martin, managing director of Coiledspring Games. “Our games provided entertainment and enjoyment for so many people. We are absolutely delighted that four out of five games won in the people’s choice category.
“This emphatically shows that our games are what people want to play. The Mind swept the board winning both Judges Choice and People’s Choice. It’s a wonderful game, truly an experience, and is well deserving of these latest accolades. Another two awards to add to its growing list.”
Wolfgang Warsch, the inventor of The Mind and Quacks of Quedlinburg, added: “I have been living and working in the UK from 2012 until 2016. This has been the time where I have been introduced to “proper” board games by my English friends. Now seeing that my games are that well received in the UK feels just great.
“Thanks to all who voted for my games.”
In addition, Coiledspring Games showcased the highly anticipated Sushi Roll, with limited pre-release copies available for sale during the show.
Sushi Roll, is a dice-based version of the best-selling card game, Sushi Go! Sushi Roll proved popular, selling out soon after the expo opened on Friday. Its main release is scheduled for the end of Q3.
Coiledspring Games also helped to run a mass game of Happy Salmon, raising money for Seren’s All Stars charity. Over 200 people took part in what has been described as a fin-tastic event.
