Gibsons celebrates 100th birthday with major sale on its puzzles

Marking 100 years of trading as a British, family business this year, Gibsons is offering puzzlers 15 per cent off any Gibsons jigsaw, spreading those birthday celebrations far and wide.

The story of Gibsons began in 1919, when founder, Harry Percy Gibson, brought a raft of indoor games such as L’Attaque and Dover Patrol to a pre-WWII audience across the UK, under the name H P Gibson & Sons Ltd. To mark the centenary, Gibsons has recently re-released a special version of L’Attaque, paying tribute to the 1940s original.

Fast forward some 40 years, and in the 1980s, Gibsons launched into jigsaw puzzles, a market it has seen grow from strength to strength. The company entered its fourth generation in 2016 when its founder’s great-granddaughters, Kate Gibson and Nicki Gumbrell stepped up to become Gibsons’ managing director and sales director and the company’s first female leaders.

Based on rate of sale, Gibsons is the UK’s best performing manufacturer in adult puzzles and produce the thickest 1000 piece jigsaws on the UK market.

Kate Gibson, MD, said: “We are extremely fortunate to have such a rich heritage; it is a big part of who we are today. Behind Gibsons is a strong and supportive team, many of whom have been a part of our company for decades and are the reason for our success.

“2019 is a year of celebration and I want to thank all of our dedicated and loyal customers for their support over the decades. My heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who has worked with us and had been part of our story so far.”

To mark its official birthday on Wednesday 15th May, Gibsons have teamed up with online jigsaw specialists, All Jigsaw Puzzles, Jigsaw Puzzles Direct and The Yorkshire Jigsaw Store, and are offering puzzlers 15 per cent off any Gibsons jigsaw. Simply head over any of the specialists and pop at least two Gibsons jigsaws in your basket. Enter ‘GIBSONS100’ at checkout to receive 15 per cent off your order.

In addition to the flash sale, the Gibsons team have hidden 100 lucky tickets inside their puzzle boxes to celebrate their centenary. If a lucky ticket is found, the recipient will be rewarded with a free 1000 piece puzzle of their choice.

What’s more, there is one extra special ticket that rewards the recipient with a year’s supply of jigsaw puzzles, so the team urge all puzzlers to get hunting now.

“Gibsons would like to thank everyone for their support, from jigsaw puzzlers, to suppliers, retailers and warehouse partners and everyone in between. The team works hard all year to create extra-special products and 2019 is no different,” read a statement from the firm.

“From a brand-new children’s range, to new contemporary jigsaw designs, their 2019 range is crammed full of fantastic puzzles, games and gifts.”
