Jigsaws and party gaming have cleaned up at this year’s Gift of the Year awards held at Birmingham’s Spring Fair earlier this week.
Awards were handed to the industry’s favourites, Big Potato Games and Gibsons, who were crowned winners of the Hot Novelty category and Occasions and Festive categories respectively.
Big Potato was handed the accolade for its party game title Weird Things Humans Search For at the ceremony held on the Sunday night, the opening day of the show. The Gift of the Year Awards are run by The Giftware Association.
Emily Polglase, head of UK sales at Big Potato, said: “The whole team is so chuffed, especially because it was our first time entering and we didn’t really know what to expect. It’s also great to see a board game take home a gift prize too.
“We have proudly placed the trophy next to the game on our stand at Spring Fair, and it’s already received lots of lovely comments and feedback.”
Meanwhile, the independent jigsaw puzzle and board game company Gibsons scooped two awards at the event, taking a win in the Occasions category for its Sweet Memories Jigsaw Puzzle Tins and a Festive award win for its Gibsons Christmas Countdown Calendar, 12 Days of Christmas.
Kate Gibson, managing director of the now 100 year old company, said: “It is hugely exciting to have won both awards. We are very proud of these products, especially the calendar which took a huge amount of dedication, from the initial concept to the final design.
“It’s a huge honour to gain recognition for them, especially in 2019 when we are celebrating 100 years of Gibsons.”
