Toy Fair 2019: Collapsing Woody and Buzz break new tech toy ground for Disney and Toy Story brand

Disney has lifted the lid on a line up of new toys inspired by its upcoming Toy Story 4 animated movie release.

Hero lines from toy firm Thinkway were unveiled during a press event at London Toy Fair this week that included an interactive Buzz Lightyear and Woody that can both collapse to the ground on command.

Marking a first for Disney’s interactive toy output, th 12-inch Buzz and 16-inch Woody action figures are voice activated, responding to a child’s commands and questions to bring key elements from the story to life through play.

The line up is billed as utilising the ‘most advanced voice command technology on the franchise’s 12-inch toy figure category to date.

Also revealed by Disney and Thinkway is a select product line dedicated to a new character by the name of Forky. Forky was first introduced in the Toy Story 4 teaser trailer in November 2018.

The range includes Interactive Forky that walks, talks and dances, a Forky Free Wheeling Talking Action figure and Walk and Tap Forky.

Mike Stagg, SVP and general manager, retail, Nordics, UK and Ireland, digital commerce at The Walt Disney Company, said: “We’re so excited to bring Toy Story back to UK audiences in 2019 as they have such a strong affinity to the franchise – Toy Story 3 still remains at the top spot for the highest grossing animation ever in the UK.

‘We are confident that audiences will ove Toy Story 4 just as much, both the amazing storytelling in the movie itself as well as our product offering – the most innovative and technically advanced Toy Story range we have ever seen.”

Claire Terry, commercial director, hardlines at The Walt Disney Company, added: “We are so pleased we are able to showcase Thinkway’s new lines at London toy Fair, from the drop-down Woody and Buzz products to the interactive toy featuring new character Forky.

“The innovation and storytelling that went into developing these toys is second to none, and we are sure that consumers will have a fantastic experience with them. We also can’t wait to showcase the full product portfolio across multiple licensees and retailers in the spring ahad of the film’s June release.”

Disney Pixar’s Toy Story 4 product will be on shelf at UK retail from April 22nd this year ahead of the launch of the film this June 21st.
