Harry Potter outplays Fortnite as Hawkin’s Bazaar’s most searched for brand online this Christmas

Harry Potter is currently outplaying Fortnite in the most searched for franchises this Christmas period, according to a new poll conducted by toy and gift retailer, Hawkin’s Bazaar.

With less than three weeks to go until Christmas, the gifts and gadgets high-street retailer has revealed the gifts shoppers are searching for most online. This year, Harry Potter gifts are on top, staying ahead of Fortnite which comes in third. Drones, Retro Consoles, and Stocking Fillers have completed the top five.

Hawkin’s Bazaar analysed search queries on its website, Hawkin.com, to find the product categories Brits are searching for the most this Christmas.

‘Fortnite may have become a global phenomenon online, but it’s still not able to take the Christmas gift crown from the Wizarding World – at least for now,’ read a statement from the firm.

Analysing UK-wide Google Search trends, Hawkin’s Bazaar also found the UK’s most festive cities – according to the proportion of total Google searches that were specifically about Christmas and Christmas shopping.

Swindon came out on top as the UK’s most Christmassy city, closely followed by Hull, Derby, Liverpool and Cardiff.

David Mordecai, CEO of Hawkin’s Bazaar, said: “While the popularity of Fortnite shows no signs of stopping, kids and parents alike are still coming back to their old favourites.

"Even 21 years later, Harry Potter is still topping Christmas lists. It’s certainly set to be another magical Christmas for Potter fans of all ages.”

Using data collected using Google Analytics from Hawkin.com search results, from November 18 until December 4, 2018 the top five searches have been Harry Potter, drones, Fortnite, Retro Consoles and stocking fillers.
