MadeForMums reveals its Toy Awards 2018 winners

MadeForMums, the UK’s parenting site for product reviews, has revealed the winners of the MadeForMums Toy Awards 2018.

This year’s list of winners has been chosen by over 500 child judges and acts to highlight this year’s must-have Christmas toys.

Unsurprisingly, collectible toys featured strongly in the shortlisted entries this year – with ‘surprise’ toys that hatch (Rainbocorns) or emerge from foam-filled pods (Playfoam Pals Wild Friends) stealing much of the limelight.

Unicorns proved to be on trend, from the talking, singing wonders of Myla the Magical Make-up Unicorn (Best Interactive Toy) to a simple tub of ‘rare’ Unicorn Poo (Best Stocking Filler).

Other standouts include Boxer, the quirky robot friend (Best Robot Toy), Gravitrax, a supercool 21st-century take on the marble run (Best STEM Toy) and an interactive doll that jiggles and giggles as she wees (Baby Alive Potty Dance Baby Doll).

The MadeForMums Toy Awards 2018 celebrates the best children’s toys at every age and stage from newborn to preteens, with 35 categories covering Best Baby Toy and Best Toddler Toy to Best Science Toy, Best Playset, Best Educational Toy and Best Scooter.

There are also five special Editor’s Choice awards for toys that stand out from the crowd.

Susie Boone, Editor, MadeForMums, said: "The results of this year’s MadeForMums Toy Awards judging show clearly that children are loving toys they can collect – especially if they can unwrap, hatch or discover them in a pot of gunge.

"That’s not to say classic toys have had their day: wooden toys scored highly this year, too, with a timber mud kitchen winning Best Toy for Pretend Play, and a train set wowing our child testers’ parents with its quality – for only £15."

The winning toys are chosen by over 500 children aged from 12 weeks old to 15 years – the real toy experts – who tested the toys and supplied Made For Mums with their verdicts.

Each toy is scored for play potential and value for money and the children’s scores, combined with the verdicts of expert judges from the MadeForMums editorial team and specially invited influencer judges including teen YouTube stars Amazing Arabella and JD the Kid, Al Ferguson, founder of The Dad Network, Laura Hamilton, star of Dancing on Ice, parent-led campaign group Let Toys Be Toys and the Editor of toy industry magazine and website Toy News.
