PAI in talks to buy board game giant Asmodee for €1.2bn

The private equity group PAI is in discussions to purchase the board game giant Asmodee for €1.2bn from its owner Eurazeo.

Asmodee is the owner of various board game IPs including Catan, Ticket to Ride and Takenoko, as well as acting as a distributor for Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering trading cards.

It also has a video games publishing division, Asmodee Digital, that is in the process of brining the company’s IP portfolio to PC, mobile and VR.

Last yea, revenue at the company reached €422 million.

PAI has said that it aims to support the existing management team and grow the business further through international expansion, both organically and via acquisitions.

Other plans include “diversifying the group’s main brands to other platforms.”

The acquisition is still subject to agreement and approval.
