DHX Media is gearing up for the premiere of Mega Man: Fully Charged, a new animated series based on the popular video game character of the late 80s.
An original co-production with Dentsu Entertainment, Mega Man: Fully Charged will land on Cartoon Network in the US with ten episodes available via the Cartoon Network app and a number of TV providers’ VOD and on-demand platforms from this August.
The series – based on the legendary Capcom Mega Man video game franchise – will make its Canadian debut on DHX Television’s Family Channel in autumn this year. Man of Action Entertainment (the team attached Ben 10, Generator Rex and Big Hero 6) serves as executive producers and story editors of the series.
“Just in time for the 30 anniversary of the legendary video game character, Mega Man is returning to TV in an all-new, amped up animated series,” said Josh Scherba, president, DHX Media.
‘We’re confident fans both old and new will love this new series, as they follow Mega Man’s fast-paced adventures, beginning this sumer.”
Yuichi Kinoshita, president and CEO, Dentsu Entertainment USA, added: “Following Capcom’s announcement of the Mega Man 11 video game, we are thrilled to be launching an exciting new animated series, Mega Man: Fully Charged.
“From TV and YouTube to video games and toy shelves, Mega Man will soon be everywhere kids are watching and playing.”
Joe Kelly, executive producer and story editor, Man of Action Entertainment, added: “Mega Man is exactly the kind of hero we need right now. Optimistic, inquisitive and more focused on helping others and understanding adversaries than just locking them up. We love this character.”
Attendees to this year’s San Diego Comic Con will be offered a first look at the new series during the Mega Man: Fully Charged panel taking place on Friday, July 20. Other highlights will include an artwork signing and exclusive merchandise for sale.
In addition to the series launch on Cartoon Network and Family Channel, episode trailers for the new Mega Man: Fully Charged will be available on DHX Media’s YouTube-based kids’ network, WildBrain.
This will all lead up to new consumer products based on the show scheduled to hit toy shelves next spring. Master toy licensee Jakks Pacific will introduce Megam Man action figures, figurines, play-sets and accessories, role play items and dress up and Halloween costumes.
