DreamWorks Animation partners with Modiphius Entertainment for Kung Fu Panda board game

Modiphius Entertainment has partnered with DreamWorks Animation to develop a tabletop board game based on the hit franchise, Kung Fu Panda.

The officially licensed, co-operative board game is currently on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter where it is looking to secure £30,000 in community backing.

With 30 days remaining on the platform, it is already two-thirds of the way to hitting the target.

Kung Fu Panda the Board Game tasks players with taking on the role of one of the Furious Five or Dragon Warrior Pro as they explore the game’s different challenges and come up against OX Grunts, Wolf Slashers and Spearmen as well as the Wolf Boss and Tai Lung himself.

‘Take part in a real time dice-rolling adventure where players team up to save villagers, overcome obstacles and defeat Tai Lung and the Wolf Army,’ reads the game’s description.

Each dice roll give players Kung Fu moves and actions to take, but could also have dire consequences as players have a chance of moving them forward on the destiny dial, spawning enemies and other obstacles.

‘It’s a fast-flowing game for all ages where players have to work together against the clock to win.’

Modiphius Entertainment has past experience in bringing hit licenses to the board gaming arena, having seen success with the likes of the Thunderbirds Co-operative Game, Fallout: Wasteland Warfare and Star Trek Adventures.

"We’re excited to add the Kung Fu Panda to our line up of geek mom and dad games (joining the co-op Thunderbirds game by Matt Leacock), especially with the 10th anniversary of the movies this year," Modiphius Entertainment’s Chris Birch, told ToyNews.

"I love seeing the huge smiles on people’s faces as they play, frantically rolling dice to get awesome kung fu moves with their cool miniatures of Po and the Furious Five.

"Co-operative games are a huge and growing new genre in boardgames, and the Kung Fu Panda board game also has two great modes to reach a wide audience; one aimed at playing with young Masters and another for experienced players at your game night."

Kung Fu Panda The Boardgame is due to retail this spring with a price tag of £35. Kickstarter backers will be able to get their hands on it for £25.
