Green Board Games, Gibsons and Games Workshop among UK Games Expo 2018 Awards winners

The Green Board Game Company, Games Workshop and Osprey Games have been named among the winners of this year’s esteemed UK Games Expo Awards.

Decided upon by a panel of judges comprised of board gaming experts and industry personalities as well as being subject to a public vote, the winners list was decided upon at the 2018 show in Birmingham last weekend.

Categories in this year’s list span 15 categories, including Best Children’s Game, Best Abstract Game and Best Board Game. Two winners have been selected in each category under Judges Award and People’s Choice accolades.

The Green Board Game Company took home the Judges Award for Best Children’s Game with its title Brain Box People At Work, while Gibsons scooped Best Board Game (strategic style) for Civilisation.

“We are thrilled to announce that Civilisation won the Best Strategic Board Game Award at UK Games Expo this weekend,” Gibsons announced via Twitter. “Thank you to everyone who visited us during the show, we had a blast.”

The complete winners list is a heady mix of quick fire, party games and long-play hobbyist titles, reflecting the diversity of the UK’s board gaming space and its rise in popularity. The show saw a 30 per cent growth on last year with a record 21,700 attendees across its three days from May 31 to June 2.

All games in the shortlist were eleigible for a public vote using the show app to choose the People’s Choice Award winners, allowing show visitors to select their favourite titles from the shortlisted companies and games.
