Toyology’s Outdoor Toy Awards adds ‘Kidult toys’ to the category mix

The Outdoor Toy Awards has introduced a new category to 2018 proceedings, following the continued growth of the Kidult toy sector.

Recent NPD data revealed that the sector for adults buying toys for themselves has grown a further eight per cent on last year, remaining a popular category and a driver for total toy sales for 2017.

The new awards category for 2018 has been defined by the event’s organise, Toyology’s Stuart Austin as ‘anything that can be enjoyed by an 18+ year old in the sun, whether in collaboration with their kids or friends.’

“We did think at first it might just be electric scooters and skateboards or kite buggies and boards, but we have had requests from Zorb Ball manufacturers, outdoor pool table distributors and several inflatable outfits asking where they might sit in the category list,” said Austin.

The Outdoor Toy Awards has also partnered with DC Thompson and social media stars Amazing Arabella and Jaadin with the aim of ensuring ‘a decent ROI for entrants.’

Categories now include: climbing and adventure, outdoor sports, flying toys, ride-ons, trampolines and inflatable bounce, pre-school, outdoor games and play, battle and blaster toys, houses, tents and hideaways, science and nature and Kidult.

The entry date for this year’s awards has been extended to April 27 with the shortlist announced on May 20.
