US: Will Amazon move into empty Toys R Us sites?

Amazon is weighing up whether to buy sites from Toys R Us, reports have suggested this week.

The move arrives as Toys R Us details its plans to shutter its business in the US.

According to the Telegraph, Amazon would not keep the Toys R Us branding if it were to buy the store locations, but instead look to turn them into its own facilities.

It will be the latest in Amazon’s ongoing plan to expand its physical retail space in the US, having already brought Whole Foods with around 470 stores and having opened more than a dozen Amazon Book stores.

However, it is not clear how many of Toys R Us’ more than 700 US stores it was said to be considering.

Amazon has so far declined to comment on the reports.
