Merge’s new VR/AR hybrid blaster signals start of CES 2018

Connected cars, Artificial Intelligence and Google going head to head with Amazon over technological voice assistants.

Yes, it can only mean one thing, and that’s the return of the Consumer Electronics Show.

The annual Las Vegas gathering sees the biggest technology brands in the world rub shoulders with even the smallest minnows, as industry experts reach a collective frenzy at the technology jamboree known as CES 2018.

The gathering of thousands of people in Las Vegas will see cutting edge devices unveiled, partnerships announced and demonstrations of the biggest tech trends coming in the year ahead.

As always, the show will have its fair share of tech toys of the future, including the latest initiatives to bring VR and AR technology into the toy space, such as the new Merge 6DOF Blaster.

The blaster is a purple toy gun on which an iPhone or Android can be docked. The phone then becomes a portal to a virtual world with six degrees of freedom tracking, meaning users can move, duck, dip, dodge, dive and dodge in the game world by moving in real life.

To explore the virtual world, players need to move around in the real one.

ToyNews will be checking in with updates from the world of toys as CES gets into full swing this week.
