‘Insufficient interest’ halts Rey’s inclusion in Star Wars Monopoly

After the hashtag #WheresRey starting trending on social media last year, Hasbro responded to fans’ concerns revealing that the lead character Rey from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, will appear in a new edition of Star Wars Monopoly.

Despite this news in 2016, the toy giant has seemingly gone back on its promise, following a series of inquiries by The Associate Press.

Hasbro revealed that the firm has created the Rey piece intended for the board game, but sets with Rey were not available for sale in the US due to ‘insufficient interest’.

Spokeswoman Julie Duffy said in an email: “In early 2016, Hasbro updated the 2015 Star Wars: Monopoly game to add a Rey token,” reports The Associated Press.

“This product was sold to retailers in several markets around the world but is not available for sale in the US due to insufficient interest.”

Fans who choose to buy the game in the US can request a Rey piece from Hasbro customer service, Duffy also revealed.

However, Duffy also stated that the game with a Rey piece had been made in five markets, including the UK and France.
