Star Wars Jawa toy fetches £21,600 on film’s anniversary

A collector bagged a whopping £21,600 for his vintage Palitoy Star Wars Jawa toy at Teesside-based Vectis auction house.

The sale was made yesterday on the 40th anniversary of the release of the first Star Wars movie back in 1977.

Coming with the rare vinyl cape, in its original packaging, it was a rare first issue of the figure which was available only for a short period of time before being pulled off store shelves and replaced a newer version.

Bids from around the world meant it sold for £21,600, which Vectis say is the highest price ever paid for a Palitoy Star Wars Jawa toy.

“Star Wars memorabilia is currently the most sought-after franchise that we have ever seen here at Vectis Auctions. Interest is particularly high as it is the 40th anniversary of the initial release of the first film," Kathy Taylor, Star Wars expert at Vectis told The Helensburgh Advisor.

Last year the auction house sold a Boba Fett toy from the late which scored an incredible £26,040.
