USAopoly readies The Thing-inspired board game

USAopoly is joining forces with the company’s designer games division, Project Raygun and online collectables store Mondo, to focus on combining iconic properties with visionary art and design.

The first collaboration between the new partners will see John Carpenter’s 1982 sci-fi horror, The Thing, transformed into a board game.

Dubbed Infection at Outpost 31, players must race to discover who is infected in the hidden identity game.

“When we set out to create the first licensed Mondo board game the biggest question was; what film property would we go after? So many of the films we celebrate at Mondo would be an absolute blast in game form,” said Jay Shaw, Mondo brand director.

“As soon as John Carpenter’s suspense masterpiece, The Thing was mentioned it very quickly became our top choice.”

Mondo appointed artist and package designer, Justin Erickson of Phantom City Creative, to manage all the art duties for the game.

In addition, the Project Raygun team is set to launch a line of soft props inspired by the film, including poseable vinyl figures, a 1,000-piece puzzle and stackable totem blocks.

John Davis, president and CEO of USAopoly and Project Raygun, added: “When Project Raygun started talking about tapping into fan’s passion and nostalgia for iconic properties and bringing them to life, it was clear that Mondo was the perfect fit to help us deliver the ultimate experience to the gaming and collector community.”
