Toys R Us expands retail presence in China

Toys R Us has officially announced it is unifying its business in Japan with the business in Greater China and Southeast Asia, expanding its business in Chinese regions.

The chain is expected to open between 30 and 40 stores per year in China, mainly in large cities, while the expansion will allow more customers to be reached through their online stores.

Toys ‘R’ Us currently has two online stores and 134 physical stores in 55 cities in China, 883 stores in the United States, Puerto Rico and Guam and another 1,049 stores in 37 other countries and regions around the world including Australia.

The expansion is expected to boost profits after its 2016 financial report fell short of expectations.
