Power Rangers boasts strong opening weekend

The big screen adaptation of Saban’s Power Rangers has exceeded expectations with an impressive opening weekend US gross of $40 million.

The film that had an estimated budget of over $100 million, opened to mixed reviews but tested well with audience members. Despite the strong opening, the film failed to overtake Disney’s Beauty & the Beast remake, which continues to dominate the box office, taking $88 million this weekend, leaving its total at a whopping $316.9 million.

Power Rangers is predicted to do well in Asia, allowing it to surpass its budget. The film is the first of a planned franchise, with five sequels currently in preparation.
