Kingdom Death overtakes Exploding Kittens as Kickstarter’s most funded tabletop game

Hit party game Exploding Kittens has been trounced in the fight to be the most funded tabletop game on Kickstarter.

New title Kingdom Death: Monster 1.5 has risen through the ranks to steal the title, having secured more than $12m on the crowd funding site.

The game – billed as a cooperative nightmare horror game experience – has cleared the previous record held by Elan Lee’s Exploding Kittens by more than $4m, from a total of 19,264 backers.

‘Kingdom Death Monster is a massive cooperative board game about survival in a nightmare horror world,’ read a statement from the firm.

‘Survivors fight for their lives against an onslaught of bizarre and fearsome creatures. They will use the fruits of these battles to build a fragile civilisation in a place where humans are at the bottom of a monstrous ecology.’

The game is the brainchild of the New York-based board game designer and founder of Kingdom death, Adam Poots.

“Initially, I brought the concept for Monster to Kickstarter in order to make a far away dream in to a reality.

“A game of this size could not feasibly be made without the community of supportive backers we found on Kickstarter.”
