LEGO reveals women of NASA minifigures set

LEGO is set to release a brand new set based on five female NASA scientists, engineers and astronauts.

The creation comes from the LEGO Ideas Review, where more than 10,000 fans’ votes were pledged for Maia Weinstock’s NASA women set.

The LEGO set, which has been inspired by real women who have worked within the space agency, includes minifigures of Margaret Hamilton, Katherine Johnson, Sally Ride, Nancy Grace Roman and Mae Jemison.

Weinstock and the toy firm are still working on the final designs for the set, and are planning on a launch date for late 2017 or early 2018.

“A big congratulations to 20tauri on becoming the next official LEGO Ideas fan designer,” wrote LEGO on the LEGO Ideas blog.

“As a science editor and writer, with a strong personal interest for space exploration as well as the history of women in science and engineering, Maia Weinstock’s Women of NASA project was a way for her to celebrate accomplished women in the STEM professions. In particular those who’ve made a big impact through their work at NASA.

“We’re really excited to be able to introduce Maia’s Women of NASA set for its inspirational value as well as build and play experience.”
