Smart plush bears leak personal data

Owners of a stuffed teddy bear from CloudPets have been warned that the toys have been involved in a personal data leak.

The plush bears, which can receive and send voice messages between parents and their children, allegedly breached data of more than 800,000 user accounts.

However, Spiral Toys, the firm behind the products, has revealed that there is nothing for customers to be worried about.

Mark Myers, CEO of Spiral Toys, said: "Were voice recordings stolen? Absolutely not,” reports Network World.

The breach was first bought to light by security researcher Troy Hunt, who revealed that hackers exposed CloudsPets’ database, which included customers’ email addressed and hashed password.

Myers added: “The headlines that say two million messages were leaked on the internet are completely false."
