Mattel unveils hologram Barbie

Mattel has unveiled a new high-tech addition to its Barbie stable, in the form of Hello Barbie Hologram.

The toy will be able to hold conversations with children about basic topics such as the weather, as well as functioning as a nightlight and storyteller. The visual effect is created using a 2D animation projected onto a 3D background which can limit the angle with which children can view the toy.

Mattel has addressed recent privacy concerns, saying no information is stored on its servers and claims the final product will be compliant with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule (COPPA).

Mattel has confirmed the toy will launch for under $300 but has not confirmed a price. The product will launch in November.
