Hasbro has revealed the winning title of its latest Hasbro Gaming Lab Spring 2016 Next Great Game Challenge.
The second crowdfunding gaming challenge held in collaboration with Indiegogo launched earlier this year, welcoming submissions from the UK, Canada, France and Germany as well as the US, for the first time.
A storytelling game spanning Detective Noir fiction and Science-Fiction called The Plot Thickens was named the grand prize winner, beating over 600 entries to the title.
Created by friends Brigette Indelicato, Mike Callahan and Thomas Rochelle of Philadelphia, the game encourages players to thicken the plot of a storytelling game by using cards in their own story and earn plot points for each element added.
“We are so impressed by the continued support from the global gaming community for each finalist’s concepts on Indiegogo.com,” said Brian Chapman, head of design and development at Hasbro.
“We love the clever literary challenge and plentiful storytelling opportunities that the The Plot Thickens game provides and are excited to work with Brigette and her team to help bring this game to life.”
The game’s creator, Indelicato, added: ‘We are beyond thrilled to have The Plot Thickens selected as the winner of the Hasbro Gaming Lab Challenge.
“We have put our hearts and souls into this game over the last two years and we’re extremely excited for the opportunity to share it with so many people.
“We are incredibly grateful to Hasbro’s team for seeing potential in our game, to the gaming community for all of their selfless guidance and to our family and friends for all of their support in our venture. We can’t wait to hear your stories.”
The team behind the winning entry will now receive $25,000, a trip to Hasbro headquarters in Rhode Island and the chance to work with Hasbro to make the game a reality.
During the challenge, Hasbro selected five finalists to launch campaigns for their concept on Indiegogo, which ran October 13 through November 13.
Each finalist received $2,000 as well as mentorship from Hasbro and Indiegogo.
