Smyths Toys sees British sales surge 30 per cent in latest financials

Smyths Toys has seen sales in Britain surge 30 per cent to hit £334 million in a year the retailer continues to record string growth.

The Irish Times reports that Smyths Toys UK – which operates the retailer’s British outlets – saw before tax profits hit almost £6 million last year, up from £3.4 million the previous year.

The family run business is now readying to open its 70th British store this Saturday at Crayford in London.

Smyths Toy opened nine new stores in Britain throughout 2015 alone. In addition, the firm operates seven outlets in Northern Ireland, a fleet that recorded sales last year of £33.6 million, up fiver per cent with profits hitting £600,000.

In recent accounts filed by the Ireland-based toy retailer, Smyths Toys’ company directors have reaffirmed plans for UK expansion.
