The Entertainer to open first European stores in Cyprus

Multi-channel high street toy retailer The Entertainer is to open its first of three European stores in Cyprus next month.

The move arrives as part of a franchise partnership with Ermes Group, the country’s largest retailer and will see The Entertainer branded toy shops intially launch within its own Debenhams stores in three of Cyprus’ leading retail destinations.

The first standalone store in the territory is expected to open next year.

Each store will be celebrated with a grand opening event in which kids and families will be invited to take part in balloon modelling, face painting and costume character appearances.

There will also be seasonal promotions and product demonstrations, along with in-store demos of the latest toys and gift card competitions.

Gary Grant, managing director and founder of The Entertainer, said: “We are delighted to have found a well-established and retail expert to be our franchise partner in Cyprus. Ermes Group are renowned for their retail acumen and were an appealing partner with many similar values to The Entertainer.

"We are delighted to be launching within three great shopping locations which will then be followed by our first standalone Entertainer store in Europe. We are really excited to be growing our international business and developing our brand beyond the UK.”

The move follows a recent warning from Grant that the retailer is currently looking at upwards of ten per cent retail price increases following the Brexit vote. He insisted however that consumers wouldn’t feel the impact of the increase until 2017.
