John Adams reveals 11-year-old Othello finalist for World Championships

John Adams has announced that 11-year-old Alexandra Bryant has been selected to represent the UK in the Junior Othello World Championships.

Bryant was chosen following her win in a nationwide competition, where she impressed judges with her strategic thinking and rationale.

Following her win, Bryant will visit Japan, where she will compete in the championships in November.

"I’m really excited about the trip to Japan,” said Bryant.

“I can’t believe I’ve won; Othello is my all-time favourite board game so to win the chance to play in the Junior Othello World Championships is amazing ­– I can’t wait.”

From now until the championships take place, Bryant will be mentored by representatives from the British Othello Federation in preparation for the event.

Guy Ploughman from the British Othello Federation, added: “Alexandra was the clear winner.

“Alexandra had obviously read the strategy sheet and had also applied what she had read really well to the position, and therefore demonstrated that she has true potential for being a strong Othello competitor.”
